The Rev. Thomas Field, husband of Nancy Van Camp Field for 43 years, died Sunday, May 20, 2012. He was born in Highland Park, Mich., on August 5, 1925. He was an ordained elder of the South Georgia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and served churches in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Rev. Field was a graduate of Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla. and the Nine Year Courses of Study at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. Prior to receiving the call to the ministry, he was lead man/foreman at Fairchild-Hiller Aircraft Modification Plant in St. Augustine, Fla. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of the Normandy Invasion in World War II at age 17. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Elizabeth; a son, Thomas (Stephanie); three step-children: Craig and Jeffrey Van Camp and Susan Hill; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Harry Field of Michigan. Services were held at Greenville’s Saint Matthew UMC on Sunday, June 10 with the Rev. Steven Brown officiating.
