Regina Carpenter Metz Maddox, nurse and mother, was received in heaven on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 4:38 p.m. at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. after suffering a stroke on Saturday morning. She was surrounded by her family as her soul left her body. Regina was born on March 18, 1938 in Spencer, W.V. to Sarah Bertha Jane Carpenter and Hal Leonard. She grew up in the hills of Spencer and Grantsville, W.V. with her grandmother, Eunice Ann and Louis Carpenter; her sisters, Ethel Roop, Carol Mitchell, and Roberta “Bunny” Fox; and her brothers, the late Bud Carpenter and the late Michael “Mickey” Carpenter. Survivors include her husband, Rev. J. Thomas Maddox, III; children, Kennetta Metz Bartels (Jonathan), Vicki Lynn Metz Boggs (Terry), John Thomas Maddox, IV (Luciana); sisters, Ethel Roop (Jerry), Carol Mitchell (Pat), Roberta “Bunny” Fox; grandchildren, Jenni Duke, Joe Duke (Jonna), Holly Moore (Patrick), Julianne Boggs, Jenna Carter; great-grandchildren, Duke and Josi Blackburn and Sara Duke; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held on Thursday, April 26 at Alpha United Methodist Church.
