Mrs. Elizabeth Jones Brown

5/4/2012

Elizabeth Jones Brown, 93, of Marietta, formerly of St. Simons Island, died on April 12, 2012.  Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Bernard L. Brown, Sr., a United Methodist pastor. They served in ministry together throughout the South Georgia Conference for over 50 years.  During and after Rev. Brown’s tenure as Superintendent of Epworth By The Sea Conference Center, Mrs. Brown held the position as Director of Housekeeping Services there.  At the age of 90, she authored a children’s book entitled “Who I’d Like To Be.”  This book is being read and given to young elementary school students statewide by Georgia’s First Lady, Sandra Deal, in an effort to promote reading and literacy. Survivors include her son Bernie Brown (Snookie), daughters Suzanne Taylor (Robert), Betsy Bagley (Earl) and Mary Kay Sellars; sisters Rebecca Holt and Martha Watson (Tex), 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the loving, caring staff members of WellStar Atherton Place and Ross Memorial Health Care Center, Mrs. Brown’s residences during this past year.  Services were held at the Lovely Lane Chapel at Epworth By The Sea, St. Simons Island, on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.
