Mrs. Irene Gaskins Hughes

Irene Gaskins Hughes, 85, of Moultrie, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Agape Heath and Rehabilitation. Born Sept. 28, 1926, in Nashville, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Noah Gaskins and Maudell Harnage Gaskins. She was a retired sales clerk with Belk’s and was a member of Nashville First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Henry Buren Hughes; two brothers, Ivey Gaskins and Harley Gaskins; four sisters, Ava Nell Arnold, Geneva Gaskins, Gladys Gaskins and Marjorie Gaskins; and a son-in-law, Pete K. Purvis. Survivors include four daughters, Roslyn Talley and husband Julian of Marietta; Judy Hiers and husband Huey of Berlin; and Kathy Purvis and Cindie Bryant, both of Moultrie; two sisters, Kathleen Royal Hoagland of Cordele, and Alma Sumner of Brunswick; eight grandchildren, Mark Talley and wife Michelle, Michael Talley and wife Pam, Kyle Hiers and wife Tina, Shawna Curtis and husband David, Chris Purvis, Heather Edwards and husband Jonathan, Brittany Allegood and husband Justin and Drew Bryant and fiancée Shanna; 11 great-grandchildren, Jordan Talley, Stephen Talley, Laken Hiers, Mckenna Curtis, Josh Curtis, Jordan Edwards, Jonathan Edwards Jr., Hadyn Edwards, Rachel Edwards, Scarlett Allegood and Katie Allegood ; and one great-great-grandson, Samuel Edwards. Services were held Wednesday, March 28, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Julian Griner officiating.
